About
The G‑6 ("Gustav") is a mid-war variant introduced in 1942. It trades some speed and agility from the G‑2 but gains upgraded firepower with two 13 mm MG 131s and a 20 mm MG 151/20 cannon. It’s widely recognized as the most-produced Bf 109 variant, with over 12,000 built.
Playstyle
Best flown as an energy fighter—booming from altitude and using dives to strike before climbing back to reset. It can dabble in turning fights at optimal speeds but excels when preserving energy and avoiding sustained engagements.
Pros and Cons
Pros
➕ Good energy retention—holds speed well in climbs and dives
➕ Effective armament—stable firepower with decent ammo count
➕ Solids turn rate (~30.9°/s) and roll (~125°/s) allowing flexibility
Cons
➖ Reduced top speed and thrust-to-weight compared to earlier G variants
➖ Very high stall speed (~190 km/h), making low-speed handling tricky
➖ Airframe limited by compressibility/rip speed and sluggish flaps
➖ Cannon ammo often sparse, requiring precise bursts
