About
The G‑2 Trop (“GTrop”) is a mid‑1942 variant of the Bf 109 Gustav series, fitted with a DB 605A engine and a large tropical dust filter. It keeps the solid airframe and guns of the G‑2 but adds a filter (and umbrella mount) for desert operations
Playstyle
Primarily an energy fighter. Use boom‑and‑zoom tactics: climb to altitude, dive for attacks, then regain height. It retains energy effectively and can dogfight at optimal speeds but struggles in sustained turning due to increased weight
Pros and Cons
Pros
➕ High top speed (~682 km/h) and strong energy retention
➕ Sturdy armament: twin 7.92 mm MG 17s + 20 mm MG 151/20 cannon with effective ammo
Cons
➖ Sub‑par thrust‑to‑weight for its class (TWR ~0.34)
➖ Heavier and less agile than earlier 109s due to added filter
➖ Stall speed is high (~170 km/h), handling low-speed flight is challenging
